MOTIONS NO.15
MOTIONS: Councillor H. Farrell
To call on the Manager to urgently address the recurring outages of traffic lights at the R136 and Castle Road junction (Penny Hill), given its status as a major traffic artery, and a recent collision at this location. The response from SDCC should outline immediate steps that will be taken to ensure reliability and safety at this junction going forward, including a review of maintenance protocols and suitable contingency measures, and swiftly implement any necessary changes.
REPORT:
The Traffic Section is aware of the recent outages at the R136 and Castle Road (Penny Hill) junction. The maintenance contractor has attended the site on each occasion to restore normal operation. The most recent fault was traced to a power interruption which caused a memory error in the controller, and the issue has since been resolved.
At present, this junction is operating normally.
To prevent recurrence, additional improvement works to the cabling and controller connections are scheduled to be carried out in the this week. These works will strengthen the reliability of the installation and reduce the risk of further power-related faults.
The Traffic Section continues to monitor the performance of this junction closely through the Traffic Management Centre. We are also consistently monitoring the maintenance contractor’s response times for fault repairs, and on each occasion, the faults have been resolved within the required timeframes.
