QUESTION NO. 2
QUESTION: Councillor C. Brady
To ask the Chief Executive to report on the number and location of anti-social behaviour incidents involving damage to facilities in the public realm over the past two years, including whether the damaged facilities were repaired or replaced, and the associated costs.
REPLY:
While the Public Realm Section do not record all anti-social behaviour activities the following is a list of recent incidents and responses.
- Castlegate Playground – Multiplay item fire damage. Damaged section of item removed. Damaged item to be replaced.
- Balgaddy playground – Damage to surface under a number of play items. Facility being assessed to determine appropriate action required.
- Airlie Park playground graffiti – graffiti removed
- Airlie Park trees vandalised – trees re-staked where possible or removed if required.
- Tandy’s Lane Park trees vandalised – trees re-staked where possible or removed if required.
- Seat damaged in Griffeen Valley Park (GVP) near wetland – seat repaired
- Seat broken in GVP dog run – seat repaired
- Stone seat toppled over in vicinity of GVP dog run bridge – seat reinstated
- Waterstown Park trampoline damaged - repair has been arranged
- Footpaths also suffer from issues of graffiti and broken glass. Where this is identified the graffiti is removed or paths swept as required.
The cost associated with the repair or rectifying damage is primarily accounted for in the countywide revenue budget. It is not possible to extract this information for individual locations.
