MOTION No. 21

MOTION: Cllr. Cáit Keane

That this committee discuss once again the upgrade of the footpaths in Templeogue Village – a meeting was to be arranged with the Traders last year. Taking into consideration that Rathfarnham Village and every village in the county has been upgraded not once but twice since I was elected back in 1991 – Templeogue Village pathways are in a terrible and dangerous state of repair and nobody is taking responsibility – this cannot be allowed to continue.

REPORT:

The footpaths under the responsibility of the Council in Templeogue Village are not in urgent need of repair at present. A Village and Urban Renewal scheme was carried out in Templeogue Village in 2001. Since then, significant road and footpath upgrading has been carried out by the Council. When the Village and Urban Renewal scheme was undertaken, the traders were unwilling to transfer ownership of the open areas in front of their premises. These areas still remain in private ownership.

The Council have no responsibility for those open areas which remain within the control of the owner / occupiers of the commercial properties. We will again contact the owners to remind them of their potential liabilities in this regard.
