QUESTION: Councillor M. Johansson

To ask the Chief Executive if any action will be taken to remove potential Japanese Knotweed in the lane at the back of Wheatfield Road in Palmerstown (reported under MembersRep Ticket: 1886534)?

REPLY:

The location of the Japanese Knotweed is on land which is not under the maintenance of SDCC.  The maintenance and upkeep of this area is the responsibility of the landowner.  This would include measures to address the presence of Japanese knotweed.  SDCC does not have an enforcement role in managing invasive species on private property.  We are liaising with the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) in the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and have forwarded the details and await a reply.
