"This committee calls for a Play space to be looked at for the Springfield estate, this is such a large estate with many young and old families, with very little amenities in the area?"
REPORT:
The request for a playspace in the Springfield estate is noted and will be considered. The Council has recently adopted its new Play Policy, which sets out a framework for how we identify, prioritise, and deliver new play facilities across the county.
The next steps in this process will include:
- Analysing mapping data to identify areas with deficits in play provision.
- Engaging with councillors on potential sites.
- Developing a schedule of sites to bring forward to Part 8.
- Engaging with local communities to establish demand and priorities.
- Developing a clear plan for delivery of new play facilities where both need and demand have been identified.
- Using this information to shape a new Playground Construction Programme.
In the previous Playground Construction Programme, it was not possible to secure agreement from residents in Springfield to install a playspace there. However, we recognise that attitudes toward play have evolved in recent years, influenced by the success of playspaces delivered elsewhere in the county and a growing appreciation of the benefits they bring to children, families, and communities. As part of the new Play Policy process, Springfield will be re-examined to assess both local demand and opportunities for provision.
