"Can I ask what the council are doing to tackle the issues around litter across the area, with the lack of public bins, this has been pointed out to me that Springfield has had many bins removed and only seeing 4 bins remaining, which i have attached a map of locations?"
REPLY:
There are currently 5 bins located in within Springfield Estate. The provision of litter bins is carried out in accordance with the Litter Bin Installation Protocol as set out in the Litter Management Plan. The protocol sets out the basic principles for litter bin placement to provide consistency and appropriate coverage in all parts of the county.
Locations where requests for bins should receive priority for litter bin placements are:
There are approximately 900 litter bins across the county, located both on-street and within public parks. South Dublin County Council proactively reviews the provision of litter bins to ensure they remain appropriately located and in line with the objectives of the Litter Management Plan. Where there is clear demand, and subject to meeting the required criteria, additional bins may be installed.
In Springfield, bin provision has been reviewed in recent years in line with this protocol, and the current locations are considered to provide coverage in line with county-wide standards.
