MOTION NO.2
MOTION: Councillor B. Lawlor
That this Committee gets agreement for remedial works to be completed at the wildflower garden in Firhouse at the Church
REPORT:
The landscape areas of the pocket park in Firhouse, adjacent to the church, has been included in the 2025 Public Realm Improvement Works Programme. The upgrade will enhance both the visual appeal and biodiversity of the space, including the flower bed in question. The council is currently working on the detailed design for the park.
Works will be carried out in two phases. The first phase will involve cutting back existing vegetation and removing self-seeding plants, followed by an assessment to ensure problematic species are fully eradicated. The second phase will introduce a new planting scheme, prioritising visually appealing, biodiversity-rich, and pollinator-friendly species.
The first phase is expected to begin in Q2, with planting to take place a number of weeks later.
