QUESTION: Councillor J. Spear

"Can the manager please give an update on the plans for pedestrian safety improvements for Springfield, Tallaght?"

REPLY:

SDCC have completed preliminary designs for the Springfield shopping centre area. I attach a draft plan of the proposal with this report. We are proposing a raised controlled pedestrian crossing across the Maplewood road near the mini roundabout.

We are proposing an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing across the Alderwood Avenue road to the shopping centre, along with a short length of new footpath to the new uncontrolled crossing.  There also needs to be increased public lighting at this location.  This will involve the Public lighting section to upgrade the general lighting on the Maplewood Road and Alderwood Avenue close to the proposed crossings.  The total cost of the proposed scheme is significant. 

The delivery of the scheme will be subject to the identification of additional funding. SDCC will be lobbying hard for additional funds for this project.
