QUESTION: Councillor L. de Courcy

To ask the Chief Executive for a timeframe on when a decision will be made about the refurbishment of the old Sports Centre (the old swimming pool and sports centre Clondalkin) into a community hub for various local groups?

REPLY:

The Council is aware of requests from local community groups in relation to the availability of community space in the Clondalkin Village area and these requests and overall availability of Community Infrastructure for all Community Groups in the area is being examined and reviewed within the context of the formulation of the Local Area Plan.

There are no immediate plans to upgrade the old swimming pool building beside the Clondalkin Leisure Centre. This will be a long term project and no budget provision has yet been made for this project in the 3 year Capital Programme. The Capital Project pipeline has a large number of other capital project commitments, with a range of both community facility new builds to be delivered and community facility upgrades/extension and these all need to be progressed first before additional proposals are considered.
