MOTION NO. 3
MOTION: Councillor P. Holohan
"This TAC calls for a survey to be carried out on the usage of newly installed cycle tracks at peak times i.e morning traffic and evening traffic?"
REPORT:
South Dublin County Council has delivered a significant portion of the Cycle South Dublin Active Travel Network. The delivered schemes include the Dodder Greenway Neighbourhood Networks in Dublin 24 and Dublin 12, Avonmore Road and Castletymon Road.
The delivery of these routes, along with previously provided segregated cycle lanes, has provided a safer cycleway and road network for all users. In particular, the Dublin 24 Neighbourhood Network has delivered safer active travel links for school commutes, disabled access routes, pedestrian crossings, safe school zones, as well as segregated cycling routes. Additionally, the reconfigured roadway has significantly reduced the number of vehicles exceeding the speed limit along straight sections of the network.
As with all new infrastructure a bedding in timeframe is anticipated before normal user levels are experienced and usage patterns fully adjust. To this end, the Active Travel Section has is arranging surveys to be carryout at on the recently constructed active travel network later this year and will provide report to members.
