MOTION NO. 1

MOTION: Councillor T. Costello

"Tallaght Community First Responders have requested a power supply to Dodder Weir AED cabinet. They urgently need to get it connected to power (a streetlight) as the cold weather is going to wreck the battery. Can this be actioned as they provide such a vital service to Tallaght?"

REPORT:

The following response to Question 11 of the November 2024 Tallaght Area Committee on the same topic was submitted by Corporate Support:

'Defibrillators have been installed at many locations around the county including at County Hall, Tallaght and the Clondalkin Civic Offices, and at all Public Libraries. These are provided and maintained by the Council and can be accessed by the public during opening hours of that building.

There are numerous AED's provided throughout the County by a wide variety of groups from local community groups, sports organisations, large shopping centres, individual pharmacies and private commercial companies. The upkeep and maintenance of defibrillators is the responsibility of the relevant sports club, community group or management company that takes on to install an AED on their property.'

The Public Lighting Section has also stated on numerous occasions that it is not possible to provide an electrical supply to a community defibrillator via a public streetlight. The Council's streetlights are supplied via a dusk-to-dawn arrangement with the ESB that does not allow for 24 hour connection.
