MOTION NO.16

MOTION: Councillor P. Kearns

That this committee calls on the manager to install a cyclists dismount sign at either end of Templeogue village in order to prevent a serious accident. I suggest at Hollingsworth cycle shop and Templeogue Tennis Club.

REPORT:

Templeogue Village is provided with clearly designated cycle tracks which includes the section between Hollingsworth cycle shop and Templeogue Tennis Club. Signs and markings are provided for the correct use of the cycle track. These markings include direction arrows, hazard warning lines, yield lines, “SLOW” text and cyclist keep left or right signs. Additionally the cycle tracks are distinctly red surfaced to contrast with the footway and roadway.

Signs to direct cyclists to dismount are considered inappropriate where continuous cycle track facilities are provided.
