"That this committee resolves to erect a gate at *details supplied to prevent access for dumping and anti-social behaviour in this laneway which has caused distress to residents in the area"
REPORT:
On the 10th February 2006 Estate Management Section, Housing Department organized a clean up of the laneway at the rear of 141 Balrothery Estate. Since then the residents have maintained the upkeep of the laneway. No further complaints have been received in regard to anti social behaviour.
It has been agreed with the residents that a gate will be erected at the entrance to the laneway. A contractor has been engaged and the work will be completed within the next two months.
It should be noted that the gating of laneways can often fail to provide a satisfactory solution to the problems that can arise and the Council’s preferred option is to incorporate laneways into gardens where possible.
In this instance the situation will be monitored following the erection of the gate. If problems persist the option of incorporating the laneway will be pursued.
