MOTION NO. 2
MOTION: Councillor T. Costello
"I would like to request that SDCC focus on improving the green space to the rear of St Dominic Shops I have attached photos of an area which is in an unacceptable state. The green area has been destroyed by quads and scramblers, there is discarded fast gas containers, footpaths are covered in mud as are kiss gates - I have attached photos?"
REPORT:
The open space in question at the rear of the St Dominic's Shops stretches back approximately 400 metres as far as Scoil Santain and has Avonbeg Estate on one side and Homelawns on the other. The open space on the Homelawns side is closed off by a railing on top of a low wall, however on the Avonbeg side the open space is bounded by a low stub wall only. It is proposed to consider closing off the open space by the installation of a railing on top of the low wall on the Avonbeg side. As there is between 300 and 400 linear metres of boundary involved in this it will be necessary to carry out the work over 2 or 3 years. The first phase of these works has been included in the draft improvement works programme for 2024 which is being presented to the area committee at today's meeting.
Arrangements will be made to carry out any repairs necessary to the green space arising from damage done by scramblers and quad bikes. The area will be cleaned and any nitrous oxide gas containers will be removed as required.
