MOTION NO. 3

MOTION: Councillor P. Holohan

"This council will inspect the mould problem on Deer park avenue?"

REPORT:

An inspection of properties on Deerpark Avenue identified from the Council's records, as having reports of mould issues has been arranged. On foot of this inspection, any necessary remedial works to rectify the situation will be arranged, as required.

Dampness and mould in a property can be caused by a combination of moisture, temperature within the property, humidity of the immediate environment and tenant behaviour. Due to the nature of our climate and the way we live, most homes would have some element of dampness and mould that requires interaction of the homeowner to help ventilate, clean, and prevent build up over time. Most of the damp and mould issues reported are preventable with the positive interaction of the tenant. If a tenant is experiencing a problem with mould, they should submit this as a maintenance request directly through Housing Online, www.hol.sdublincoco.ie so that the issue can be investigated.  There is advice about controlling condensation and mould available on  www.sdcc.ie which may also assist.

It should be noted planned maintenance programmes, such as the Energy Efficiency Retrofit Program and the Accelerated Windows and Doors replacement programme, will have a positive impact on the control of damp and mould in properties. Property Condition Surveys which are to be conducted  during 2024 will also identify properties with mould issues.
