MOTION NO.7
MOTION: Councillor M. Lynch
That following a number of years of tree removal on St. Patrick's Road, Greenhills, D12, with no replacement planting, the manager conducts an inspection in the first quarter of 2024, with a view to planting suitable new trees by year end, even if this is outside the current tree planting programme.
REPORT:
St Patricks Road in Greenhills will be inspected to determine it's suitability for tree planting as requested. It should be noted that planting of trees along this road is likely to be very difficult due to a number of factors. The grass margin which was previously in place on this road has been removed and replaced with hard surfacing to create a parking lay-by for residents, if planting were to take place in this area it would result in the loss of parking spaces. Many of the houses on this road have removed their front boundary walls to create a wide entrance to allow a number of cars to park off-street, it would not be possible to plant in front of these houses as to do so would block the entrance to the driveway. There are overhead power cables along one side of the road over it's entire length which is likely to present a major difficulty in identifying suitable tree planting locations. As well as these issues there are also multiple underground services which would likely be in conflict with any plans to plant trees. There are also public lighting columns along the entire length which would provide another possible conflict with tree planting locations.
