QUESTION NO.5

QUESTION: Councillor D. McManus

To ask the Chief Executive to examine the public trees adjacent to (Address withheld) to examine their height and how appropriate these public trees are in a residential area, and to ask if new trees being planted in this estate will grow to a similar size or require less maintenance?

REPLY:

There are two mature trees adjacent to the location in question at Aranleigh Gardens, the trees are Fraxinus ornus (approx. 7m high) & Ulmus spp (approx. 12 m high). These trees are commonly planted and managed in residential estates across the county adding to the aesthetic of the estate and the local environment.

In line with SDCC Living with Trees Policy new trees that are being planted across the county are selected by their final mature size, water demand, crown shape, future management requirements and suitability to the location to mitigate against future issues. Aranleigh Estate was last included on the Council's tree maintenance programme for the period 2020 to 2022 with works completed on that programme in 2021.  A further inspection will be conducted on the trees in question.
