QUESTION NO.

QUESTION: Councillor T. Costello

"To ask the manager following up on my question - "To ask the Manager can instruction be sent to the owner to reinstate the wall at the old gate entrance to Katherine Tynan House?" and "can I get an update on when works will commence?"

REPLY:

On foot of a previous Members Rep and ACM question the Councils Architectural Conservation Officer contacted the owners of the property.  The owners engaged a Conservation Architect given the status of the site to prepare a method statement for the works required to repair and reinstate the damaged section of wall.  A Method Statement has been completed and have been agreed and approved by the Councils Architectural Conservation Officer.  A conservation contractor was engaged at that time but unfortunately, the contractor who after some discussion indicated limited availability to undertake the works and did not take the contract due to this.  The owners have since went back out to seek proposals/quotes from other suitably qualified contractors.

In a correspondence issued to the owner’s representative, the Councils Architectural Conservation Officer set out the duty of care as owners of a Protected Structure.  In a response the owners representative stated that they are completely aware of the urgency of completing this work and have confirmed that once they have a contractor engaged, they will inform the Architectural Conservation Section, LUPT.  In the meantime, they are also to liaise with the Roads Section SDCC to discuss road safety issues ensuring that damage to the wall by a vehicle does not reoccur after the wall is reinstated.

The Councils Architectural Conservation Officer has contacted the owners again requesting that the work be carried out as soon as possible and has reminded them of their duty of care.
