NEW TRAFFIC CALMING PROGRAMME

The current traffic calming programme comprises 8 schemes in each of the 5 Electoral Areas i.e. a total of 40 schemes.   Each scheme was selected by the relevant Area committee.

The present position in relation to this Traffic Calming Programme is as follows:-

Schemes completed                                       25

Schemes to start June/July 2006                       4

Schemes undergoing Part 8 consultation             4

Schemes to be designed                                    4

Following a review of the 25 schemes constructed, it is noted that little or no complaints have been received in relation to traffic movements in these areas.   It is generally accepted that this current Traffic Calming Programme has been very successful.

In light of the Traffic Calming Request List, the Transportation Strategic Policy Committee, at its meeting held on 11th May 2006 adopted a new Traffic Calming Programme comprising 4 schemes in each of the 5 Electoral Areas - 20 in total.   The selection of each scheme will be made by the relevant Area Committee.
