QUESTION NO.

QUESTION: Councillor M. Duff

"Given the success of the Outdoor Food and Craft Market in Tymon Park, could the Manager please indicate to this Area Committee if consideration has been given to extending the Market to Sunday, in addition to the Saturday event?"

REPLY:

Earlier this year the Council advertised a tender for a market operator to arrange, set up, and manage a food and craft market at Tymon Park on a concession basis.

The Council was not prescriptive in the day(s) the potential tenderers/market operator could operate the market, but left that to the market operator to select having regard to potential footfall, trader availability, variable costs, and their own professional experience in operating markets in other locations. The current operator chose to operate on Saturdays in other to create a sustainable and impactful quality destination experience.

Saturday has now become established as the day for Tymon Park market, the operator amd market traders are committed to this day until the end of the season. Attempting a Sunday market ( if you could secure the services of the operator and market traders who will no doubt have already committments for Sunday market in other locations ) could threaten the success our Saturdays.

The Food and Craft Market at Tymon Park operates each Saturday from 11am to 4pm from a location close to the Castletymon Road entrance and in proximity to the playground. The offerings available include street food, crafts, and artisan produce, as well as family entertainment. The market also promotes local enterprise and develops a sense of community by utilising where possible local producers and crafts people, including Local Enterprise Office South Dublin (LEO) start-up clients.

Outdoor markets support the promotion of the local community, enhance the attraction of our parks as valuable amenities and improve the tourism offering in the County. It’s also a fun filled family day out.
