QUESTION NO.

QUESTION: Councillor D. Richardson

"Can the manager look at getting the recycling bins beside Killinarden Community school moved as this is causing a problem with dumping around the bins?"

REPLY:

The bring bank site adjacent to Killinarden Community School contains both textile and glass recycling receptacles. As evident from the high volumes of both glass and textiles deposited at this site, it is an important facility that is used by the community in the area and as such we would be hesitant to remove it. The identification and suitability of provision of alternative sites is challenging due to the siting criteria involved.

Unfortunately, as referred to, there are difficulties at the site with ongoing dumping. To overcome this, several measures have been put in place which include:

In collaboration with Litter Management & Waste Enforcement teams, the following items have also been installed to deter dumping.

In addition to this, there is an increased enforcement presence by our Litter Wardens at the location.

These measures are in place for several months now. Since dumping does continue, their success as well as further options will be reviewed over the coming months. Although not the desired outcome, one of these options that may be required will be the removal of the textile banks at the site.
