QUESTION NO.
QUESTION: Councillor M. Duff
"Could the Manager make a report regarding the Public Realm Improvement Works Programme 2023, in particular to the installation a new railing in Tymon Park, from the roundabout to the Depot, and could he also indicate if he is aware of access difficulties experienced by wheelchair users at the Kissing gates on Arena Road, by the fact that the gates open directly on to a slope of uneven ground inside the Park, that is covered in mud when it rains and makes it difficult to manoeuvre a chair in these circumstances?"
REPLY:
The 2023 Public Realm Improvement Works Programme for the Tallaght Area consists of 21 projects. At the present time 9 of these projects have been finished and the remaining 12 have been procured with work scheduled to take place in the second, third, and fourth quarters. Specifically, an order has been placed for new railings to be installed in Tymon Park from the roundabout to the depot and these installation works are planned to be completed before the end of June.
Adjustable kissing gates have been installed at two locations along Arena Road in recent years to prevent access to the park by scramblers and quad bikes, one of these is close to the arena car park and the other mid-way between the main road and the car park. Both have been installed to a high standard and both gates open up onto a good quality macadam surface which is universally accessible. It may be the case that one or other of these accesses is impacted in times of heavy rain and water may run off the adjacent grasslands onto the footpath. This will be investigated at both locations and if drainage is found to be an issue then remedial works will be carried out to resolve the matter.
