COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE

QUESTION NO.19
QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor
'To ask the CEO to detail actions being taken and proposed to encourage tourism to Tallaght and will he make a statement?'
REPLY:
Work continues with the development of the Tallaght Heritage Centre. An Architect lead design team has been engaged and is currently working up design concepts for the building. The interpretation consultant will feed into this process. Once the site surveys and preliminary building concept have been developed, the Council intends to bring the plans to Part 8 later this year, with a contractor expected to be appointed in early 2024.
Work continues at Tallaght Stadium with the new north stand, remodelled main strand corporate areas, and upgrade works to the south stand. Works are expected to be completed by late July/early August, 2023. These developments will provide an opportunity to hold additional events with promotors in Tallaght for 2023, 20234 and beyond.
Following the success of the inaugural outdoor food and craft market at Tymon Park last year, the Council will be engaging a market operator within the next few weeks to run a similar market which is expected to run from April to October, 2023.
The Council will support a number of large scale events this year through the Council’s Tourism Event and Festival Grant. These events are expected to draw visitors from outside Dublin and overseas to Tallaght.
A new tourism strategy for South Dublin is currently being drafted which will guide the future development of tourism in Tallaght and the wider South Dublin County. It will build upon the work undertaken during the first strategy and include a range of actions based on a full analysis of the tourism potential of the County.
The Council members will be kept updated on the development of the Council’s Tourism Strategy and all associated tourism related initiatives.
