COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN / PALMERSTOWN / NORTH CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, March 28, 2023
MOTION NO. 12
MOTION: Councillor M. Johansson
That the Chief Executive provide funding for the development of Christy Melia House (address provided). The area of North Clondalkin community has expanded over the last number of years and there is a clear need for a dedicated centre for the community. This centre would allow for capacity building, a space for other organisations to locate in and perhaps state agencies to better deliver of much needed services.
REPORT:
The North Clondalkin area is served by a range of community facilities in Council ownership including Quarryvale Community and Leisure Centre, Neilstown Community Centre, Rowlagh Community Centre, Weavers Court Neighbourhood Centre and Liscarne Neighbourhood Centre.
Christy Melia House is owned and managed by North Clondalkin Community Development Programme who are regularly supported through community grants from the Council and the Local Community Development Committee Community Enhancement Fund.
The Council's annual Community Infrastructure Fund, which specifically supports the development or upgrade of community and sporting facilities, will be launched later this year and our Community Development team will link in with NCCDP to explore the potential for support for works to the centre under that fund.
