MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE
Monday, March 27, 2023
QUESTION NO.17
QUESTION: Councillor M. Duff
"Would the Manager inform this Area Committee if the Department of Education and or Archbishops House has made a formal application to South Dublin County Council to acquire additional land, adjoining the school at Bancroft Park, on behalf of the Board of Management of Scoil Aonghusa Senior, to facilitate an extended play and sports area for the pupils and to detail the progress, if any, of such an application?"
REPLY:
An Application was received requesting additional land at this location but was refused on 11 Nov 2021 for the following reasons.
- The proposed disposal would result in the loss of existing mature vegetation (including trees and hedgerows) along the western and southern boundaries of the school and this would be contrary to Green Infrastructure Policies under the objectives of the County Development Plan.
- An existing proposal to erect a railing or fence to close off the bank of the Poddle River which is adjacent to Scoil Aonghusa and just downstream from the footbridge is being examined.
- The subject area contributes to an existing Green Infrastructure Corridor L9 as set out in Appendix 4 of the Draft County Development Plan 2022-2028.
- The subject area is also part of an identified Green Infrastructure link which is to be strengthened in the future and it has potential for greater sustainable transport links. This would involve a redesign of the footbridges and would reduce or eliminate most of the anti-social activity in this area.
