QUESTION NO. 9
QUESTION: Councillor M. Johansson
To ask the Chief Executive for a report on all vacant homes on the vacant homes register in the Lucan/Palmerstown/North Clondalkin area with information on current ownership and actions taken by SDCC to bring homes back into use?
REPLY:
South Dublin County Council currently has the lowest vacancy rate in the country at 1.4%.There are currently 10 properties on the vacant homes register in the Lucan/Palmerstown/North Clondalkin Area. All properties have been investigated and are privately owned.
Grants are available to bring vacant and underused buildings back into residential use and ensure that existing housing stock is being used to the fullest extent possible under the following schemes:
Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant: €30,000 available to support refurb works of vacant property into a permanent home. If the refurbishment costs exceed the standard grant of up to €30,000, a top-up grant amount of up to €20,000 is available for properties classified as derelict.
Repair and Lease Scheme: Owners of houses or apartments/bedsits that have been vacant for at least one year and which require repairs to bring the property to the required standard for rented properties should contact their local authority and express an interest in the scheme.
Buy and Renew Scheme: The Buy and Renew Scheme supports local authorities in purchasing and renewing housing units in need of repair and making them available for social housing use.
Further details on all schemes can be found on the Council's website at Vacant Homes - SDCC
If you are aware of an empty/vacant private home in our administrative area you can register the vacant property at www.vacanthomes.ie . Where vacant homes are identified efforts will be made by our Vacant Homes Officers to bring this property back into use, helping to sustainably meet the housing needs in the County.
