MOTION NO.8
MOTION: Councillor F. Timmons
That this Area Committee support Clondalkin Tidy Towns in their work to ensure that St Josephs Graveyard is maintained and preserved for future generations and that SDCC act on an independent report from a local Architect P.M. Ging: Dip Arch FRIAI who has recommended that all the walls are brought to the same height using the stones saved from Boot Road and stored in Corkagh Park. This will help keep the upcoming repair of headstones by SDCC safe and help in combatting anti-social behaviour.
REPORT:
As previously reported under Motion 2 at the Clondalkin Area Committee meeting in October 2021, raising the height of the original wall at St. Josephs would result in an unnecessary and inappropriate change, it would result in the original built fabric being compromised with regard to its original form and without proper justification a material change and modern intervention is not warranted. The wall in question is not a perimeter wall that sits separate to the site but is part of the structural integrity. Increasing the height will not only compromise the architectural and structural integrity but will not prevent access to the site, thereby any such work cannot be considered appropriate or justified.
