MOTION NO. 1

MOTION: Councillor E. Murphy

To ask the Council to allocate funding for the upgrade of the entrances along the Dodder Greenway at Firhouse, Old Bawn and Bolbrook to ensure that they are synergised with the entrances at Knocklyon, Rathfarnham, Mount Carmel and Templeogue.

REPORT:

The NTA funded Dodder Greenway scheme is managed by the Council's Land Use, Planning and Transportation directorate.  To date the scheme has included improvements to hard landscaping and entrance features to the greenway and Dodder Valley Park at a number of locations including at Mount Carmel and at Cherryfield.  LUPT have advised that funding was not provided by the NTA for improvements to existing entrances and car parks at Firhouse, Old Bawn and at Bolbrook all referred to in this motion and no such improvements have been included in the scheme to date.  A further phase of the Greenway project, from Old Bawn to Kiltipper Park, is currently at the planning stage and this may present a further opportunity for improvements of this type to be included and funded.  It should be noted that the entrances to the park and greenway at Seskin View Road and at the Old Bawn pavilion car park have been developed in recent years, this work was done to a high standard and would not appear to need any improvements at the present time.  The Public Realm Section can examine locations where improvements are required but have not been included in the greenway project, and these can be considered for inclusion in future improvement works programmes.
