QUESTION NO. 4

QUESTION: Councillor Eoin Ó Broin

To ask the Chief Executive when work on the Teen Space and the Dog Park in Rathcoole Park is expected to commence and how long are both projects expected to take once works begin?

REPLY:

The proposed extension to the teenspace programme was approved in the 2023 budget onwards and the planning and design work has yet to commence on the proposals. A site in Rathcoole Park not been selected and the details of what will be included have not been worked out.The design of any teenspace follows consultation with local teenagers. Once Public Realm completes the current teenspace programme, we will then progress to the teenspace programme extension and meet with local teenagers; either through schools, clubs or youth groups to find out what facilities they would like and then we would look for appropriate sites to deliver the required facilities. Once this work is completed we can estimate the delivery time.

Public Realm operations and maintenance has made a provision of €30,000 in the Public Realm Improvement Works Programme in 2021 for the provision of a dog run in Rathcoole Park. The scheme did not progress during that year, as the reinstatement of the park had only just been completed after Irish Water Works and it was felt necessary to allow the reinstated grass areas to become established. The development of the Rathcoole Planning Masterplan is currently underway and it is considered necessary to allow that process to run it's course before the dog run location would be selected. Once the masterplan has been finalised a suitable location for the dog run will be selected and installation will take place. Procurement of the fencing has already been carried out and this will not delay the project, once a site can be selected.
