MOTION NO.12

MOTION: Councillor K. Egan

That this Area Committee agrees to ask the Council to upgrade the grounds of Knockmitten basketball court. The council has done a fine job on the Calisthenics bars in the park but the basketball court is an eyesore. The request to line out the three-point line and install some polyester netting instead of the chain net. 

REPORT:

The location where the basketball court is situated has been identified as the site for the Knockmitten all-weather pitch.  It would not be advisable to upgrade the court as this would incur unnecessary expenditure which would be undone with the development of the all-weather pitch.  In addition, the development of a basketball court at this location could potentially compromise the future development of the site.

The Community and the Public Realm Sections are currently discussing the funding of half ball basketball courts around the county.  The provision of these courts is subject to site suitability.  Knockmitten Park will be examined for suitability as part of the process.
