QUESTION NO.

QUESTION: Councillor Patrick Pearse Holohan

"In the Tallaght area, what land use zoning do allotments come under and can this changed in future development plans?"

REPLY:

The South Dublin County Development Plan 2022-2028 was adopted in June 2022 and came into effect in August. The land uses which are permitted in principle, open for consideration or not permitted are set out in Section 12.2.1 of Chapter 12 of the County Development Plan.

Allotments are indicated as being permitted in principle in Open Space zoning and in Rural zoning.

They are open for consideration in all other zonings with the exception of HA-DM (High Amenity – Dublin Mountains) and RW Retail Warehouse where they are not permitted.

Zonings are applied on a county wide basis with the exception of the differentiation in the High Amenity zoning between the different geographic areas of the Dublin Mountains, Dodder Valley and Liffey Valley.  The HA-DM zoning applies south of Tallaght outside the built up areas as the land rises into the foothills of the Dublin mountains.  The Development Plan maps show the different zonings across the county and can be viewed at this link: Adopted Plan - SDCC through the Interactive Map or the pdf Land Use Zoning Maps (Map 9 of the latter covers most of Tallaght).
