QUESTION NO. 11

QUESTION: Councillor M. Duff

"Following on from reports about a recent incident of Badger Baiting in Tymon Park, would the Manager make a report to this Area Committee as to the number of such incidents recorded and what steps can be taken to ensure the Ranger staff are protected while responding and how such incidents can be eliminated?"

REPLY:

There has been only one reported incident of badger baiting in Tymon Park and this occurred in recent weeks.  The Gardai were notified of the incident by a park ranger who came across the illegal activity as it was taking place.  The Gardai attended the scene however it is reported that the group had dispersed before the Gardai arrived.  The ranger in question who was assisted by a colleague in dealing with the matter was instrumental in dispersing this group and bringing an end to the activity on this occasion.  The Public Realm Section will consider the matter further to determine what measures are required should a repeat occurence take place.
