Proposed Pre-Part 8 design for age friendly housing at Deansrath/Melrose

REPLY:

Our Age Friendly County Strategy 2020-2024 highlights the need to provide appropriate age friendly housing options for our ageing population, which is projected to increase by 51% from 2016 to 2031.

The Council's Housing Delivery Action Plan 2022-2026 set out our strategy to deliver over 600 age friendly homes to both meet current housing need and facilitate supported rightsizing transfers by choice for existing Council tenants and private householders, freeing up larger, underoccupied homes for more efficient use.

In order allow persons to age in place within their existing communities the CDP provides an objective to support housing designed for older persons in residential/mixed use areas at locations that are close to existing services and amenities.  In addition age friendly community led developments inestablished are as on lands zoned "OS" can be developed where the quality and quantum of remaininig public open space is determined to be adequate and the amenities of the area are preserved.

The site at Deansrath/Melrose has been identified as suitable for an age friendly development.  Should the members approve progressing the proposed development to Part 8 consultations will take place with the local community.
