MOTION NO.6
MOTION: Councillor Eoin Ó Broin
That this Area Committee agrees to the reinstatement of the holy well at St Brigid's Well on the Boot Road in Clondalkin by installing a solar powered electric pump at the well site that could pump a water source located underground to a small reservoir that could in turn feed the well. The current arrangement with mains water is often stagnant.
REPORT:
St Brigid's Well was supplied by a natural spring before the 1990's. The spring dried up due to nearby development works which would have lowered the water table in the area. Alternative water supply arrangements were put in place as part of the Fonthill Road South construction with a small water supply provided from the public water main.
There are no plans or budget currently provided to bore a new well to replace the spring supply or to assess what works this might require.
