QUESTION NO.15

QUESTION: Councillor S. O'Hara

To ask the Chief Executive, what was the content of the 6 responses relating to Rathcoole Park - out of 297 participants with actual responses considerably lower - from the consultation on Teen Spaces, and what were the arising criteria that resulted in Rathcoole Park being recommended as an addition to the Teen Space Programme at a cost of an estimated 60,000 euro (500,000 euro across 8 locations)?

REPLY:

South Dublin seeks to provide facilities in our parks for all ages and abilities. The survey asked for suggestions for Teenspaces around the County. Six people who completed the survey specifically listed Rathcoole Park as a location where they would like to see a Teenspace. Public Realm consider this as an appropriate location as it is already owned by the Council and is a safe, well used park in an area with a lot of young people currently using it. There are no Teenspaces provided in the area.

The exercise equipment trail for older adults and the play areas for children installed in the park have been very successful and we anticipate that a Teenspace meeting the recreational needs of local teenagers and would also be well used.
