QUESTION: Councillor C. King

To ask the CEO to investigate with a view to correcting the issue that has arisen with the Gaeilge option with the receipts at the Kiosks in Castletymon Library and possibly County Library if the same system is in place whereby Fadas are not being recognised on Library members names when printed which is causing some consternation among some Gaeileoirí in the area. It appears to be a programming error that should be quite easily rectified.

REPLY:

This was brought to our attention late in the week of the 7th November and has been raised with the supplier of the self-service kiosks. The supplier has been carrying out investigations into the issue, and it has now been escalated to the manufacturer for resolution. We are satisfied that the issue is not due to innacurate data entry by staff, but the kiosks are misinterpreting correct library management system data. As of Monday morning 21st November, there are indications that this is an issue for other library authorities with kiosks supplied by different suppliers, so it may be the communication channel used rather than the kiosks themselves. Investigations are ongoing and an update will be provided as soon as this issue is resolved.
