MOTION NO. 3

MOTION: Councillor F. Timmons

That this Area Committee supports local calls and petition for lights to be added into the Clondalkin Park local skatepark, we recognise the importance of this local amenity to so many young people and request the council look and act on this request

REPORT:

When the skatepark was constructed, it was managed as a controlled facility that was locked at night.  It was not envisaged that night-time skating would take place in the skatepark and therefore lighting was not provided at the time.  The facility has developed in the intervening years and it is no longer locked at night.  The request for lighting the skatepark will be examined.  Anti-social activities that developed at this facility in recent years would need to be considered as part of this examination.  However, it should be noted that these activities would appear to have abated.  If considered appropriate, lighting will be listed for consideration in the draft Public Realm Improvement Works Programme for 2023.

The Public Realm Section has not received a copy of the petition and would appreciate if this could be forwarded so that it could be considered as part of the process.
