MOTION: Councillor F. Timmons
That this Area Committee supports Rathcoole History Society in the protection of a St Brigids Well on Tay Lane in Rathcoole. We request that the council protects this site from any future development and works with the Rathcoole History Society to look how it can be preserved (locations of site Grid ref O 18510 26822 , Latitude, Longitude: 53°16'55.03"N, 6°28'22. S1" W)
REPORT:
St Brigid's Well is a recorded monument with reference number DU021-030004 Ritual Site - Holy Well. As such, it is protected under the National Monuments Act 1994 as amended. Works to the Holy Well would be subject to license. A Planning Application SD22A/0342 was made earlier this year in respect of lands containing the holy well. The holy well is located within an area proposed as Public Open Space. The proposals have been referrred to the National Monuments Service, who may make recommendations in relation to same. The application is currently at further information stage.
