QUESTION: Councillor Baby Pereppadan

"To ask the chief executive regarding the introduction of goal posts to DeSelby green. I have been receiving multiple complaints regarding this on a daily basis as most residents are against the proposal?"

REPLY:

Provision of goal posts at De Selby was first requested through Tallaght area committee business in 2016/'17, as members of the committee seemed to be in agreement with the proposal at the time arrangements were then put in place to install the posts. Council staff went on site to do the installation some time later however they were met by a group of residents who were not in favour of it and the staff were forced to leave without completing the task. In the following years there was disagreement among all concerned on the matter and installation of the posts did not proceed for that reason.

When the matter was raised on the agenda of the November 2021 Tallaght area committee meeting there was no disagreement among committee members on the matter. This resulted in a further request from the members to provide the goal posts, and Council management was asked to progress the installation of the posts. When asked by way of question on the agenda of the September '22 meeting a commitment was given that the goal posts would be installed during the month of October and that a map indicating the proposed location would be issued to the local councillors in the coming weeks.  That map is due to be issued in the coming days and installation of the posts will proceed as agreed by the area committee in November '21.
