QUESTION NO.
QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor
"To ask the CEO to take immediate action in respect of the sequence at the traffic lights at Firhouse Road West/Old Bawn Road Tallaght; will he appreciate that this matter has been raised many times and will he particularly note local claims that "the average wait time/queue time can be up to 30 minutes to exit from Aylesbury between 8 and 9am; will he examine the situation, give assurances and make a statement?"
REPLY:
The junctions of Old Bawn Road / Firhouse Road West, Old Bawn Road / Kiltipper Road and Old Bawn Road / Firhouse Road / Old Court Road are linked together to allow for maximum traffic movement. When the left and right turns are running out of Firhouse Road West the phasing also runs the left and right turn out of Kiltipper Road and the left, straight and right turn from Firhouse Road all onto the R113.
The sequence shuts down the Kiltipper left and right turn allowing the main road, R113 to run whilst leaving the left and right turn from Firhouse Road West operating. This allows vehicles to fill the available space before reverting to the main road R113. A review of the timing sequencing has been requested for all 3 junctions, however, due to the amount of phases and staging movements across the 3 junctions and the volume of traffic trying to access the R113 during peak hour (8am to 9am) it may not be possible to achieve further green time from Firhouse Road West.
