QUESTION: Councillor Baby Pereppadan
"To ask the Chief Executive for a list of the amenities and investments currently in Citywest and planned for the growing community of Citywest?"
REPLY:
The following is a list of amenities and investments by department currently in existence or planned for the Citywest Area:
A) Libraries
A request for tender in the form of a pre-qualification questionnaire was published on 1st September for provision of a site and development of a new library for Citywest to include design and obtaining planning permission. The evaluation team is currently reviewing submissions received. The next stage, due in early November will be to invite qualifying tenderers to participate in a competitive dialogue process.
B)Public Realm
Carrigmore Park is an existing public park within this area. The total area of Carrigmore Park is 4.26 hectares. Carrigmore Park contains the following facilities:
- Play area
- basketball court
- football pitch
- walking area with exercise equipment
- car-park and boundary walls
The Council have allocated a budget of €250,000 to upgrade Carrigmore Park. A tender for design consultants is currently underway and a Part 8 will be submitted for approval to the Council prior to commencing the upgrade.
In addition the following private developments have planned or developed parkland, open space and recreational amenities as outlined below:
- SHD3ABP-306602-20 -A large playground is being provided as part of this development along Citywest Road – a playground is built and this development is nearing completion.
- SD14A/0121 – Cuil Duin -This development includes a neighbourhood park with central open space and a children's play area.
- SHD3ABP-300555-18 - Site bounded by Fortunestown Lane, Garters Lane and Bianconi Avenue, Saggart, Co. Dublin The first phase of this development is nearly complete – provision of central open space with play area. Phase 2 will involve the provision of a full size GAA pitch and soccer pitch within a large parkland area
- SHD3ABP-302398-18 - Cooldowns Commons Phase 2 Provision of 2 playspaces – Development nearing completion
- SD15A0127 City West Park – Under construction and close to completion; an extensive nature park with an emphasis on biodiversity and ecology. Provision of walking/ cycling /jogging routes with informal kickabout, informal play areas with copious opportunities for natural play.
- SD18A/0014 City West Demense: provision of a small green and play area.
- SD16A/0210 -south of Garter Avenue, medium sized open space area bounding City West Park to the north and containing shared routes and formal and informal play and kickabout areas.
Furthermore the Department of Education is progressing new educational facilities; 3 new schools have been opened and are operational in the area in recent years and a further 2 schools have been granted permission.
C) Community Section
Citywest Community Centre - latest update is that Planning Permission application relating to new community centre in Citywest is due to be submitted in November 2022.
