QUESTION NO.

QUESTION: Councillor L. Dunne

"After the countless motions that were agreed by this area committee and after a commitment was given by the Manager that goal posts would be installed during the summer in Deselby estate. Can the Manager explain why this did not happen?"

REPLY:

The focus of the Public Realm Operations Section over recent months has been on the delivery of projects that have been included on agreed work programmes, such as a large number of improvement works programmes for example, as well as the ongoing general maintenance programmes such as grass cutting and cleansing.  While there has been disagreement in the past on the proposal to install informal goal posts in De Selby it was agreed by the local elected members, when the matter was last discussed by the area committee in October 2021, that the installation would proceed on a trial basis.  The Council continues to receive very strong objections from a section of the residents in the estate to this proposal and it is expected that these will arise again when goal post installation takes place.  It is proposed that installation of informal goal posts will take place during the month of October.   It was agreed previously that a map would be issued to local elected members indicating the proposed location for the goal posts, and that once that was done the local residents will also then be notified.  This will take place in the coming weeks.
