QUESTION NO.
QUESTION: Councillor M. Duff
"That the Manager makes a report to this Area Committee regarding the upgrade of Castletymon Shopping Centre and confirm if all the business owners have agreed to participate fully in the Project? Will the Manager also gave an indication of a completion date for the entire upgrade, include any public artworks involved as part of the Project?"
REPLY:
That the Manager makes a report to this Area Committee regarding the upgrade of Castletymon Shopping Centre and confirm if all the business owners have agreed to participate fully in the Project?
SDCC held a meeting in July to update traders on the tender issue for the works. This included a presentation about some improvement options we had on offer to them regarding façade upgrades and additional parking options. Unfortunately this meeting was very poorly attended by the traders.
Since then, SDCC have continued to liaise with traders on an ongoing basis and have made ourselves available to meet again if the traders wish. This option has not been taken up as of yet and there continues to be poor engagement by some of the traders.
The works to the environs have Part VIII permission and will be proceeding. The works to the building facades require agreement
Unanimous agreement is needed in order to continue with the façade element of the works. Proposed works to the environs will not be impacted.
Will the Manager also gave an indication of a completion date for the entire upgrade?
SDCC anticipate works will begin in January 2023 (to avoid impacting Christmas trade). The construction programme is 30 weeks.
Include any public artworks involved as part of the Project?
Public Artworks, in the form of 4 murals, will be undertaken by Creative Connections, who will be engaging with traders directly. These artworks will commence once the main works contract is completed.
