QUESTION NO. 8

QUESTION: Councillor M. Johansson

To ask the Chief Executive what is the average waiting time for homeless priority by bedroom size, if the applicant/s were not on the housing list prior to becoming homeless?

REPLY:

The current average time on the homeless list for the 160 households who presented as homeless at the same time as first applying for social housing support from the Council is as follows:

Bedroom Requirement  Current Time Registered as Homeless
1 3.7 years
2 2.6 years
3 2.5 years
4 4.5 years

The above figures represent an analysis of the time on list  of certain currently homeless households only, are not representative of overall average times spent on the homeless list and do not represent an indicative average time as homeless or on the housing list at which an offer of a social housing tenancy is likely to be made.

Offers of social housing tenancies based on homeless priority depend on various factors including bedroom requirement, areas of preference, supports required (e.g., Housing First etc.), time in homelessness and overall time on the social housing list.
