QUESTION NO.
QUESTION: Councillor Patrick Pearse Holohan
"Could the manager give an update on the mould problem that is/was been inspected at Mac-Ulliam estate?"
REPLY:
The Housing Maintenance Section have identified a number of properties throughout the county with a persistent damp and/or mould issue. Damp and mould can be the result of a number of causes including excessive moisture in the air from tenant behaviour or maintenance issues, poorly insulated building fabric and poor air circulation within the property.
From investigations, a number of properties were identified with issues relating to poor air circulation which could be resolved with the installation of mechanical ventilation. A trial was carried out on a number of properties throughout the county including within MacUilliam estate. The findings of the trial have been very good, with positive feedback from the tenants. Additional properties are being identified for similar measures to be implemented.
