QUESTION NO.

QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor

"To ask the CEO to report on further contacts with stake holders in respect of Butler/McGee Park; will he detail further plans for the Park and make a statement?"

REPLY:

A meeting took place on site in March with the Fettercairn Estate Management Group as well as representatives from the St Marks GAA and St Marks Celtic clubs.  There are a number of projects in the park which are included in the public realm works programme this year and these were discussed with the meeting attendees.  These include the provision for the construction of a footpath loop or walking path within the park and this will be done in a number of phases over the coming years.  There is also provision for the planting of wildflowers in the park.  Tree planting has taken place recently and plans to build on this programme were discussed.  The residents raised the issue of access points which could still be accessed by scramblers, even though the Council has installed K barriers at these points.  A commitment was given to address these access points in a manner that would exclude scramblers.   The Marks Celtic representatives raised a number of issues specific to their club, namely access to the park at Cookstown Road for their members who carry mobile goal posts over from their premises, a commitment was given to address this issue in consultation with them.  They also raised the matter of sports capital funding which had been obtained in previous years for installing drainage on one of the pitches used by them.  A commitment was given to pursue this matter with the capital projects team within public realm.
