MOTION: Councillor F. Timmons

Cathaoirleach's Business

That this committee requests that houses in (Name of Estate witheld) that only have one person in them and our council owned (addresses supplied) be urgently brought into housing stock and the single occupants be rehomed to one bed accommodation and that due consideration is given to the allocation of such homes to future tenants given the age profile locally

REPORT:

Allocations to all Council properties are made according to the Allocations Policy.  Any new Age Friendly developments will be offered to applications from those over age 55 on the housing list, transfer applicants who have expressed a desire to downsize or approved for a tranfer on other grounds.  Applicants on the medical list and whose need will be met by these properties will also be offered properties.  A small number will also be available to private homeowners wishing to downsize through the new Financial Contribution Scheme.  All Age Friendly developments be advertised  on the Council webiste (new area being developed) and through social media platforms. 

Current tenants, who wish to transfer on rightsizing grounds but are not eligibile for Age Friendly (age 55+) units, can submit a transfer request and their application will be considered on rightsizing grounds.
