MOTION NO.15
MOTION: Councillor Patrick Pearse Holohan
"What is the councils protocol when a family have to leave a property for circumstances out of their control eg vandalism, fear, violence?"
REPORT:
The Council investigates all reports of anti-social behaviour and takes appropriate action under the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2014 where necessary. The Allocation Support Unit has a team of dedicated Officers who work directly with tenants experiencing issues and provides assistance to support them in their tenancy. In addition, the Council’s Housing Welfare Social Work team are also available to provide support.
If a tenant needs to move from their home, they can apply for a transfer to alternative accommodation. Transfers on the grounds of Estate Managment are investigated and only considered where a Garda Superintendent has stated that there is a risk to personal safety and an urgent need to relocate the tenant(s) as outlined in the Council's Allocation Scheme. The Council will consider all the circumstances and if approved, one offer of alternative accommodation will be made to the next available suitable property which meet the family’s household needs.
If anyone feels threatened or have concerns about their safety, they should always in the first instance report incidents of anti-social behaviour to An Garda Síochána.
