QUESTION NO. 16

QUESTION: Councillor P. Gogarty

To ask the Chief Executive why a broadband infrastructure does not appear to have been provided for part of St Helen's Adamstown and possibly other estates, meaning that residents cannot get a service provided by a commercial operator, to clarify whether it is official policy to allow homes to be sold without this essential service available; and if a statement can be made on the matter.  

REPLY:

St Helens was predominantly permitted as part of a SDZ17A/0002 and includes the following condition:

‘All public services to the proposed development, including electrical, information and communications technology (ICT) telephone and street lighting cables and equipment shall be located underground throughout the entire site.   There shall also be provision for broadband throughout the site in accordance with the Planning Authority’s policy and requirements.

REASON: In the interests of the visual amenities of the area, the proper planning and sustainable development of the area and compliance with the Council's Development Plan.’
