QUESTION: Councillor D. Richardson

"Can the manager report if the district heating system would be available to community centres in the tallaght area , with the current cost of heating premises ,this would go a long way in supporting our community centres?"

REPLY:

The Tallaght District-heating network is currently under construction in the town-centre.

Works include the erection of an energy-centre building which accepts recyclable waste-heat from the adjoining data-centre.

The temperature of this heat is increased using heat-pumps and will be pumped as hot water around the pipe-network to its customers.

Works will be completed and heat distribution commenced by September of 2022.

Customers for Phase 1 of the project will be the SDCC County Hall building, TUD Campus building and the new TUD Sports-centre.

This is a pilot-project and limited to Tallaght town-centre in its early stages.
